When two shieldwalls connect the carnage is almost absurd. You basically have one choice and it's made automatically: the shieldwall. Except Dena raiders, but fuck those guys.įormation fighting feels easier than 1257. That said, you'll almost never run into enemies with armor so thick that your weapons can't hurt them, unlike 1257. You can trip and fall while walking backwards, you can get fatigued, and you deal extra damages for attacking from behind. Heavier armors will reduce your stats, particularly athletics, and the fighting generally tries to be more realistic than 1257. In almost every other mod I play a horse archer, but in Brytenwalda I play a footman or spear cavalry. Weapons are generally slower (especially axes), and ranged weapons are severely gimped by the contemporary technological limits.
I find the individual combat much less forgiving than 1257. Parties are all over the place and the game has an incredible amount of action. You will rarely, if ever, be out of sight of a settlement. Settlements are packed incredibly close to each other, and the British Isles are absolutely FILLED with them. If you enjoy the new map, Brytenwalda will give you a heart attack. It just felt too overwhelmingly large and empty to stay interesting.
I recently switched back to Brytenwalda because of the new 1257 map.
